Magnificent merits：

On June 22, 2025, Grandmaster Living Buddha Lian-sheng presided over the Vasudhara (Goddess of Auspiciousness) Homa Ceremony and, during the discourse, mentioned Drashi Lhamo, a manifestation of Vasudhara in Tibetan Buddhism. She is considered a worldly guardian deity and the wealth goddess of the Gelugpa tradition. The True Buddha News highlighted the following key points:

Drashi Lhamo Practice to be Transmitted at the Fall Grand Ceremony
Today’s empowerment for Vasudhara also included Drashi Lhamo, who will be the main deity of the upcoming Fall Grand Ceremony. She is a manifestation of Vasudhara and has other legends associated with her.
Her mantra is: "Om Ma Mo Na Mo Tong Tong Zha Zha Soha."
Her appearance is fierce.

Drashi Lhamo as the Goddess of Wealth in Tibet
In Tibet, there is a temple named “Zha Ji Temple” dedicated to her as a wealth deity, believed to bestow sudden wealth and prosperity. She is also venerated as a fierce Dharma protector, though originally known for her beauty.

Offerings for Drashi Lhamo: Three Whites, Two Mirrors, and Delicacies
It is said she is venerated not only in Tibet but also in places like Chengdu and Ningxia. Her offerings are quite unique: three bottles of white liquor and “tsampa” (barley flour). Where barley flour is unavailable, wheat flour can be used instead.
She holds the sun and moon in her two hands, so two mirrors should be offered—a special requirement in True Buddha School. Other fine foods can also be offered.

Drashi Lhamo as a Worldly Guardian and Gelugpa Wealth Goddess
She originally protected travelers but later became known as a goddess of wealth and a worldly protector. The Gelugpa School now honors her as their wealth goddess who can bestow sudden wealth, like winning a lottery. Grandmaster humorously noted that her practice can bring sudden fortune, prompting applause from attendees.

Legend and Origins of Drashi Lhamo
According to legend, she was a beautiful imperial consort of Emperor Qianlong. Due to palace intrigue, she was poisoned, her body turned black, her tongue protruded, her face disfigured, and her legs severed—yet miraculously, they grew back resembling chicken claws. After her unjust death, her spirit haunted the palace until a Tibetan monk subdued her spirit and took her to Tibet, where she became enshrined outside a temple—known as Zha Ji Temple.
Over time, she gained widespread veneration as a protector of travelers and a bestower of sudden wealth, becoming recognized as a worldly guardian deity of the saha world.

After today’s empowerment, disciples may recite her mantra to receive her blessings and, humorously, "sudden wealth" .
 

A brief biography of Drashi Lhamo from Grandmaster Sheng-yen Lu’s Book 304 Questions and Answers Under the Pine Tree:

In recent weeks, during group cultivation ceremonies, Grandmaster mentioned that Drashi Lhamo descended together with Mahashri Vasudhara (Great Auspicious Goddess).....

Drashi Lhamo is a very unique Dharma protector, little known to the world, and is the exclusive protector of the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. Currently, she is enshrined only at Drashi Temple in Lhasa, Tibet.  She has a dark complexion, furrowed brows, round glaring eyes, a wide-open mouth with her tongue extending to her chin, and chicken claws for feet. Her fierce appearance symbolizes her great power to subdue and intimidate evil forces.

According to legend, Drashi Lhamo was deeply devoted to spiritual cultivation. Because of her beauty, she became the target of jealousy, and an evil spirit tried to poison her. Due to her spiritual attainment, she forced the poison to her tongue, causing it to protrude permanently. When the evil spirit saw the poisoning fail, it severed her legs, but she miraculously regrew chicken-like feet, earning her the name “Goddess with Chicken Feet.”
This form represents her immense power to neutralize poison, and also symbolizes her ability to remove the poisons within sentient beings’ minds.

Another version of the legend says she was a beautiful, kind, and virtuous woman from China who became Emperor Qianlong’s most beloved consort. Because of jealousy, she was poisoned and died unjustly. After her death, her resentful spirit lingered in the palace, seeking justice for her wrongful death and terrifying the courtiers.

When Emperor Qianlong learned of this, he invited a high lama from Sera Monastery, Jampa Minlang, to console her spirit and restore peace. Upon arrival, the lama saw her weeping on a palace beam and learned her tragic story. The emperor, enraged by the injustice, punished those responsible and requested the lama to help her transcend and liberate her from suffering.

After the ritual, as the lama returned to Tibet, he noticed that her spirit continued to follow him. When he asked why, she replied that she had a kind heart and, after receiving the lama’s guidance, wished to take refuge in the Buddha and attain liberation. The lama, concerned for her journey, offered to establish a place near Lhasa where she could be enshrined and receive offerings from devotees. She agreed, and he enshrined her at Drashi Temple, a subsidiary temple of Sera Monastery.

The lama then created a statue and residence for her, assigning her the role of guardian deity under the name “Drashi Lhamo.”
Since then, Drashi Lhamo has faithfully protected the area and diligently pursued Buddhist cultivation.

Historically, Drashi Temple was near Chinese military garrisons, so many Chinese merchants and travelers would stop to worship her. Due to her effective protection and blessings for merchants, her reputation as a wealth goddess gradually spread.

Even today, wealth deity practices in Tibet remain esoteric and are rarely publicly practiced, unlike in True Buddha School where Grandmaster Sheng-yen Lu openly transmits wealth deity practices so that every disciple can cultivate them. In Tibet, aside from Yellow Jambhala (as one of the Four Heavenly Kings), other wealth deities are rarely publicly worshipped and remain secret.

As a result, Drashi Temple has become the most famous wealth deity temple in Lhasa. Pilgrims frequently bring white liquor to Drashi Temple to seek her blessings for protection and prosperity.
Today, Drashi Lhamo is recognized as an incarnation of Mahashri Vasudhara, and she has become a prominent wealth goddess and protector in Lhasa. She bestows wealth and health, alleviates suffering, and purifies the poisons in the bodies and minds of sentient beings.

Grandmaster Lu’s personal connection with Drashi Lhamo:
“My affinity with Drashi Lhamo began recently.
First, Dharma sister Zheng Yi brought back a statue of Drashi Lhamo from a Tibetan temple, and I enshrined it at the altar in ‘Nanshan Yashe’ home.
When I placed my palms together, her tongue extended, and two beams of light flashed from her glaring eyes.
Wow! She appeared vividly alive.
Later, during a group cultivation, she manifested in space together with Mahashri Vasudhara.

Drashi Lhamo is easily recognizable due to her unique appearance—glaring eyes, protruding tongue, and especially her chicken feet, which can startle anyone.
Therefore, I pay special attention to her and sincerely hope she will protect all True Buddha disciples.”
