Seattle Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple Participates in the 2026 Walk for Rice Charity Event, Practicing the Compassionate Teachings of His Holiness Living Buddha Lian Sheng [LSCTT News]
On May 16, 2026, Seattle Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple joyfully participated in the annual Walk for Rice charity event held at Seward Park in Seattle. Through practical action, the temple supported the food bank services of Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS), helping provide food assistance to families in need throughout Seattle and the surrounding communities.
This event was not only a charitable walk, but also an opportunity to unite the community through participation, gathering the strength of compassion, care, and mutual support while spreading warmth and kindness.
This year’s event attracted more than one hundred participants. Looking across the gathering, many families and even their beloved pets joined together in the activity, creating an even more enthusiastic atmosphere than in previous years. Longtime friends greeted one another warmly while collectively supporting this meaningful event.
On the morning of the event, the weather in the Founding Temple area was slightly cool. Reverend Lian Yin, Abbot of Seattle Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple, led a group of twelve participants, including Masters, Senior Reverends, Reverends, assistant instructors, and fellow practitioners, to the venue. After a warm-up dance session, the running group began first, followed by the walking participants who proceeded along the lakeside trails of Seward Park.
The full route covered approximately 2.5 to 3 miles (4 to 5 kilometers). In a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, participants accompanied and encouraged one another while enjoying the beautiful lake scenery and natural surroundings. The fresh morning air and the sight of various small animals along the path became a natural classroom for the children participating in the event.
His Holiness Living Buddha Lian Sheng often teaches disciples to sincerely practice compassion, engage extensively in virtuous deeds, and benefit all sentient beings. Even a small act of kindness or a single compassionate thought can bring warmth, hope, and strength to others.
Seattle Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple has supported the Walk for Rice charitable donation event for many years. Among the donations announced during this year’s event, Seattle Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple ranked among the leading contributors. This achievement reflected the collective compassion and generosity of many people, demonstrating how small acts of kindness can accumulate into great benefit.
Throughout the walk, participants felt the enthusiasm and positive energy of other community organizations. This event was not merely exercise or a casual walk. As practitioners silently recited the Padmakumara Heart Mantra while walking meditation was practiced, they formed positive affinities with countless beings and brought the Buddhist spirit of compassion into daily life—learning to care for others, serve society, and help those in need through concrete action.
Through participation in the Walk for Rice charity event, Reverend Lian Yin expressed the hope that Seattle Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple would continue supporting community charitable activities. He also hoped the event would strengthen the fellowship and connections among monastics and fellow practitioners while encouraging more people to participate in public service and continue passing on the spirit of compassion and care.
The temple looks forward to seeing even more people join this meaningful Walk for Rice charity event next year. Not only does it promote personal health and well-being, but it also helps others receive nourishment and support. By gathering countless small acts of kindness and compassion together, society may receive even greater warmth and hope.
