Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple’s Charity Funfair Round 2
Devotees from Around the World Enthusiastically Gather to Pay Homage to the Grandmaster
[Report from Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple, Seattle / Lian Yan]

The second round of the Founding Temple’s Lotus Festival Charity Funfair was grandly held during the Seattle Autumn Grand Ceremony. With the air filled with Dharma joy, numerous disciples and community members cheerfully joined in the funfair activities, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.

Since its establishment in 1985, the Founding Temple — Seattle Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple — has steadfastly dedicated itself to the transmission of Buddhist culture and widespread charitable giving. It has long been a spiritual refuge for countless devotees. As a sacred Feng Shui treasure ground, the Founding Temple’s establishment inspired the flourishing of True Buddha School chapters worldwide, like bamboo shoots after the spring rain. The seeds of Dharma have been widely sown, attracting countless virtuous believers with hearts of devotion and compassion to voluntarily help advance the Bodhi cause and diligently practice the Six Paramitas.

This Lotus Festival series of events spans three months and includes the Founding Temple’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, the Grandmaster’s birthday festivities, the Charity Funfair, religious and cultural art exhibitions, painting and sketch competitions, as well as the annual Autumn Grand Ceremony featuring the Grandmaster’s first transmission of the Drashi Lhamo practice. The rich and colorful program has drawn eager anticipation and attracted disciples and visitors from all corners of the world.

Beginning in early September, disciples from around the world joyfully made pilgrimages to Seattle, undeterred by long journeys, often bringing their families along. The crowds continuously poured into the Founding Temple, filling the front courtyard to capacity. Each day, the Grandmaster personally bestowed blessings upon disciples for nearly an hour. Every devotee’s eyes shone with longing and reverence; their hearts overflowed with warmth and gratitude, cherishing this rare reunion with deep emotion and wishing time could stand still.

Among the many events in September, the most vibrant and engaging was the Charity Funfair. Led by the Ching-Ching Practice Group, the True Buddha-themed game booths — such as “Fish Scooping,” “Archery,” and “Bottle Toss” — allowed participants to practice focus and mindfulness while playing, becoming favorite stations for children. Indonesia’s Da Jue Tang brought traditional folk games for cultural experience, while Natalie’s Arts Studio offered hands-on art activities showcasing the beauty of creativity. The Drone Photography Workshop provided professional portraits capturing memorable moments. The True Buddha Music Station featured a fun song-request corner where participants could play songs inspired by the Grandmaster’s teachings, guess his favorite tunes from the opening melody, and write heartfelt blessings on message slips. Meanwhile, the True Buddha Stage Show showcased energetic performances by young people — singing and dancing with enthusiasm and joy — a testament to the organizers’ thoughtful planning. All proceeds from the funfair were donated entirely to charitable causes.

The charity promotion section, led by the True Buddha Foundation Seattle Office, was joined by the Monastic Services Division, True Buddha News, Zhi Xin Lei Zang Temple Construction Office, Good Education Merit Association, and others. Malaysia’s Yi Fu Cultural Promotion Association presented the Grandmaster’s English-language publications, while Brazil’s Zhen-Ti Lei Zang Temple offered rich, aromatic coffee. Everyone contributed with devotion — whether financially or through service — adding brilliance to the 40th Anniversary celebration.

Another highlight was the Lapis Lazuli Light Health Care Team, which provided free health consultations and education. The team, consisting of Reverend Lian Yi (MD), Dr. Chang (MD), Nurse Tsai, and Pharmacist Chiu, offered blood pressure and oxygen checks, reviewed medication and medical histories, and shared personalized health and lifestyle advice. In the U.S., where healthcare costs are high, such thoughtful service was especially precious, deeply moving many international visitors who expressed heartfelt gratitude.

We sincerely hope the Founding Temple in Seattle will continue upholding its enduring mission of spreading the Dharma and compassionately serving all beings. May it grow ever more vigorous in hosting activities that bring benefit and joy to countless sentient beings. We warmly welcome all devotees and community members to actively participate in the temple’s future events, helping to share the light of the Dharma with every visitor.
